Description

Cozaar (generic name: losartan potassium; brand names include: Los-Pot) belongs to a new group of medicines, called angiotensin II receptor antagonists.

Cozaar is the only medicine in its class proven to lower the chance of stroke.

Cozaar is used:

alone or with other blood pressure medicines to lower high blood pressure (hypertension);
to lower the chance of stroke in patients with high blood pressure and a heart problem called left ventricular hypertrophy;
to slow the worsening of diabetic kidney disease (nephropathy) in patients with type 2 diabetes who have or had high blood pressure.

In type 2 diabetic patients with protein in the urine, Cozaar has been shown to reduce the need for dialysis or kidney transplantation.

Cozaar is not addictive.
